Are you a law, communications, marketing, public policy, or STEM-related student or recent graduate seeking substantive experience and contacts with science and tech companies, Members of Congress, or at the White House?  If so, you are invited to apply for immediate openings as an intern for a dynamic non-profit organization whose mission is to expand the nation’s ranks of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) professionals.

Organization Description:

STEM4US! is a non-profit organization formed to provide parents, teachers, and advocates with the tools to excite and prepare young people for careers in technology, energy, and other STEM fields.  The group works to achieve this goal through several national and DC-based initiatives including the Capitol Hill STEM Power Lunch ™ series, the organization’s signature event.  These bimonthly high-level policy conversations provide a platform to examine ways to boost American innovation with a particular emphasis on removing barriers for women, African American, and Hispanic innovators.

Recently, STEM4US!, held the historic First Annual CBC Week Tech & STEM Festival: Our festival featured Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA) + David Owens, Executive Vice President of the Edison Electric Institute (the trade group for the nation’s power utilities) + Montgomery County Councilmember Cherri Branson (D) ‎+ the chief civil rights advisor to the Prince Georges County Executive + FCC and Department of Energy chief diversity officers + reps from GMU’s Mason Game & Technology Academy + a venture capitalist from SCI Ventures  + 200 other innovators and STEM leaders.  In addition, STEM4US! is working to launch several other programs including a reality TV show and a venture capital fund.

Position Description:

Selected candidates have the opportunity to gain valuable training and contacts under mentorship of senior lawyer and former chief counsel to Member of Congress.  Duties include: (1) making contacts with technology and energy company execs, Members of Congress and staff, and education leaders to support the organization of a successful congressional lunch forum; (2) meeting with venture capitalists, tech executives & media companies to launch a reality TV show; and (3) drafting and editing proposals, PowerPoint presentations, and other documents.

Term:  December 2014 – May 2015

Internship Benefits: 

The position allows work from home and offers a flexible work schedule (7 to 10 hours per week).  Successful candidates may be eligible for full-time paid positions in the future.  Most of all, selected candidates can count on substantive and practical work experiences; one-on-one training and mentoring from seasoned and well-connected lawyers; and chances to network with influential people by attending receptions, congressional briefings, and seminars of interest.
